Motorcycling, for me, is more than just a journey on two wheels; it is a chance to forge connections, share stories, and create lasting memories.
I was fortunate that my dad shared his passion for motorcycling with us, as a family, from a young age.  At 6-years old, he got me a Keystone mini-bike – yellow, no gears, the only brake operated by a lever on the handlebar. It was a joy to ride and explore!  Even that early in life, I gave mini-bike rides to both grandmothers, who grinned ear to ear, as we buzzed around the mountain trails near our home in the foothills west of Boulder!
Over the years, I’ve enjoyed riding solo and with numerous riding groups and clubs. I’ve explored our amazing country on two wheels, meeting new friends and experiencing the joy of riding, wherever I’ve lived.
In recent years, I’ve been introduced to a group of other women riders who have extended my list of friends, role-models and mentors. Women in the Wind (WITW) is an international women’s motorcycle riding organization.  Their Mission is to unite women motorcyclists with friends of common interest, promote a positive image to the public of women on motorcycles and educate members on motorcycle safety and maintenance.
Women, with their bikes and trikes, are welcomed regardless of skill level or riding experience.  They are supported and encouraged to expand their horizons with safe riding practices. Safety training events and classes are solicited, organized and offered, with incentives to participate. Rides and events are hosted locally, regionally and internationally to enhance connections and provide rewarding, fun riding experiences.
Riding with my ‘Wind Sisters’ (Daughters of the Road) is a special experience, fostering camaraderie, while sharing our love and passion for exploring the open road!
I chose the images in the 'Daughters of the Road; Women Who Ride' project to capture a few of these amazing women and moments; demonstrating strong, empowered women, who love to ride. Whether riding with the ‘Biker Belles’ in Sturgis, other lady riders unaffiliated with any club, or my WITW Sisters, I share a common bond with these amazing women; our passion for riding and life!
